Assamese Short Film ‘Sita’ Selected to Cannes Film Festival

Assamese short film 'Sita' has been chosen to represent India at the prestigious 68th Cannes International Film Festival (Festival de Cannes) which has got under way since May 13, and will conclude on May 24. 'Sita' has been selected to be screened in the short film corner section.

The producer and director of the film is Kangkan Deka, who has also done the script from Jiten Sarma's story. The cinematography is by Prayash Sharma Tamuly.

Shot in a village named Niz-Rangamati near Mangaldoi, the film is about the lives of Moina, a nine-year-old boy, his widowed mother and his beloved goat. The child is emotionally attached to the goat but his mother has some other plans for the animal, and whether Moina and the goat would be able to sustain their bond, is the theme on which the poignant story of 'Sita' revolves.

This short film with a universal theme is believed to have left quite an enduring impact on the jury. We're genuinely looking forward to watching it in Assam. Director Kangkan Deka will also have his first real opportunity to see several outstanding movies made by masters of world cinema at this premier film festival.

Presented under the banner of Kernel Films, 'Sita' features child artiste Debajit Deka, Dwipandita Pathak, Reba Phukan, Jagadish Nath, Jayanta Deka and Rahul Deka. The music is scored by Bhagawat Pritam. Sound designing is done by Debojit Gayan. 'Sita' is edited by Rupam Kalita.
