International Award of Excellence 2015 for Aisa Yeh Jahaan

Its really heartening to know that Assam born film maker Biswajeet Bora's much anticipated Bollywood film entitled 'Aisa Yeh Jahaan' (The World It Is…) has been getting overwhelming response from all over the world. The film has bagged multiple awards at various International film festivals round the world. Produced by Maya Kholie, who hails from Arunachal Pradesh, 'Aisa Yeh Jahaan' is supposed to be India's first carbon neutral film. Recently, the film has picked up another award to add to its burgeoning trophy collection - the 'International Award of Excellence 2015' at the prestigious 'International Film Festivals for Environment, Health and Culture, 2015' at Indonesia. As informed by the film maker, apart from 'Aisa Yeh Jahaan', the only other film awarded in the 'International Film Category' of this festival is 'Stones from the Desert' from Spain directed by Bruno Jubin and Max Olivier Jubin.

"It gives immense pleasure to a filmmaker when a film gets recognition worldwide. It means a lot to the team behind the project," Biswajeet Bora says. The film has also won the 'Silver Award 2015' at the prestigious 'International Independent Film Awards 2015' held at San Francisco. It has received Official Selection and Recognition 2015 at the prestigious 'Mexico International Film Festival 2015' held in Mexico City. In addition to that, 'Aisa Yeh Jahaan' has been selected to the Grace Film Festival 2015 held in San Francisco.

The film's cast of artistes comprise of Dr. Palash Sen, Ira Dubey, Yashpal Sharma, Tinu Anand, Kymsleen Kholie, Prisha Dabbas, Saurabh Pandey and Carol Gracias.

As per information received from the production house, the film is scheduled for all India release in July this year, and it will be distributed by a very well-known distributor. The film has 6 music tracks composed by Dr. Palash Sen and all the songs will be releasing in June.

The film set in Mumbai tells the story of ever growing human detachment with nature and how an urban family gets trapped in the concrete jungle of a metropolis. It reflects the wide-ranging conception of children drifting away and gradually forgetting their roots, and the circumstances that somehow push us into today’s world of technology, but eventually the film gives out its social message in a satirical and light-hearted way. It is filled with subtle humour and has a sardonic style of storytelling. Sources say, the film tries to bring the North – Eastern flavour for the first time in Bollywood mainstream cinema. Also in the film, it raises the issues of how north – eastern people face racism in the metro cities.

Besides possessing imaginative freshness and global appeal, another important attribute of this production is its environmental-conscious initiative. 'Aisa Yeh Jahaan' is probably India's first carbon neutral feature film. With the help of CERE (Centre for Environmental Research and Education), an NGO from Mumbai, which works to promote environmental sustainability through action-oriented education, awareness and advocacy, the production company has planted almost 370 trees all over India to make the film 'Carbon Neutral'.

Film shoots tend to harm the environment in many ways. 'Aisa Yeh Jahaan' is no different. Besides greenhouse gas emissions from onsite fuel, the production polluted the environment through use of vehicles, electricity, onset generators, plastic among others. So to compensate, the production company planted trees and took up other initiatives. It's their way of reducing the carbon content in the air, thus making the film 'carbon neutral'. This new concept has been welcomed by quite a few reputed Bollywood production companies and they are also planning to do it in due course of time.

The film's writer and director Biswajeet Bora has earlier assisted internationally acclaimed filmmaker Jahnu Barua for several years before making a couple of films, including the Assamese film 'Ejak Jonakir Jhilmil' (A Thousand Fireflies Sparkle) in 2007. On the other hand, Maya Kholie, the producer, had started her production company called – 'Kholie Entertainment' in 2009 in Mumbai and made the documentary – 'Angel of the Aboriginals: Dr Verrier Elwin' that was directed by Biswajeet Bora. This documentary has been selected to several international film festivals, including the Bollywood Beyond Film Festival in Germany and the IUAES (International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences) in Turkey.
