Dhepadhulia Bipin Deka Conferred with the ‘Luit Gaurab Award’

The State’s famous Dhepadhulia Bipin Deka was recently conferred with the ‘Luit Gaurab Award’ for the year 2019, by the Indian Oil Guwahati Refinery, in the Sector-ll playground. Deka was bestowed the award during the Rongali Bihu celebration programme, organised by Noonmati Bihu Sanmilan. As recognition for his relentless efforts towards enriching the Dhepadhul culture, prevalent mostly in the district of Darrang and around it, Deka has been selected by a jury comprising of some eminent personalities of the State.


In line with its corporate policy to preserve and enrich traditional art and culture, Guwahati Refinery initiated the ‘Indian Oil Guwahati Refinery Luit Gaurab Award’ for those artistes who have contributed to folk art and culture of Assam. The award consists of an amount of Rs 1 lakh and a citation, which is awarded every year during Rongali Bihu celebration at the Noonmati Bihutoli. The needy artiste is selected by a jury of eminent achievers in the field of art and culture of Assam.

Bipin Deka, who hails from village Dhokapara of Sipajhar under Darang district, has been practicing Dhepadhol for the past 70 years. For his outstanding achievement in the field, Deka was honoured by the Sanskritik Mahasabha with the Lifetime Achievement Award in the year 2017. He was also felicitated by Aauniati Satra in Majuli, besides being felicitated by Assam Sahitya Sabha, Darang District Sahitya Sabha, and Darrangi Kala Kristi Unnayan Sangha.


Deka received the award at the Noonmati bihutoli amidst a huge gathering of people. S Manchanda, Executive Director of Guwahati Refinery, while handing over the award to Deka, stated that Guwahati Refinery has been continuously promoting such efforts which has been enriching the art and culture of the State.
