3rd Annual NEEDS Excellence Awards Held

The 3rd annual NEEDS Excellence Awards organised by the NGO – NEEDS (North Eastern Economical Development Society) were recently bestowed upon eighteen different personalities and three institutions in recognition of their significant contributions, in a colourful ceremony held at the ITA Centre, Machkhowa.

This year’s awards programme was divided into three separate categories – Youth Icon, Outstanding Contribution and 3 Teams. The Youth Icon award was presented to Utpal Das (Acting), Deepa Karmakar (Sports), Kamal Dey (Fashion Photography), Mami Varte (Music), Amanjeet Kaur (Bravery), Dr Soumen Bharatiya (Cultural Development), Tanu Riva (Fashion Designing), Himangkan Das (Entrepreneur) and Gautam Gupta (Social Worker).

The awards for Outstanding Contribution in different fields were given to Dr Nomal Chandra Bora (Social Work), Wasbir Hussain (Journalism), Jayanta Malla Baruah (Debate), Mayur Bora (Literature), Indrani Raimedhi (Journalism), Ram Avtar Agarwal (Entrepreneur), Dr. Ravi Kannan (Health) and Lou Majaw (Music).

The three teams that were awarded were Virangana (Women Empowerment), Concept Education (Education) and Scorpion Protection Agency (Security Service).

The show started with the lighting of the traditional lamp by Jantee Hazarika, a first runner-up of MTV’s popular show – India’s Next Top Model, noted Neurologist Dr Navanil Barua, Col. PM Goswami, social workers Raja Mallik and Minaram Baruah.

The chief guest and show stopper was without doubt the Femina Miss India-World Priyadarshini Chatterjee. The ravishing beauty took part as a judge along with former Mr Universe Mahadev Deka in the fashion competition – Mr & Miss Perfect 10. While Simran Jain was adjudged the winner of Miss Perfect 10, Rahul Bora was the winner of Mr Perfect 10. The winners received Rupees 50 thousand in cash, a trip to Malaysia besides a chance to act in an album which will be produced by NEEDS. The grooming and choreography of the fashion show competition was conducted by Minu Paul.

On the occasion, the audiences were treated to an evening of song and dance, courtesy of Mumbai based singer Anaya Brahma, actress Sunita Kaushik, choreographer Uday Shankar, actor Vivek Bora and Pompi Das. Sunita Kaushik was announced the face of NEEDS for the year 2017.

The show ended with a vote of thanks delivered by the founder of NEEDS, entrepreneur-social worker, Amardeep Paul who was appreciated by many in the audiences for taking such a wonderful initiative.
