Filmmaker Bobby Sarma Baruah conferred with the Gadadhar Award, 2017 for her contribution towards the society and for highlighting the history and culture of western Assam through her films.
It may be mentioned here that this prestigious award is being conferred on a personality every year by the Gauripur Anchalik Students’ Union in association with Siksha aru Sanskritik Unnayan Samiti and Gauripur Press Club since 2012, for contribution in the field of art and culture.
This year, filmmaker Bobby Sarma Baruah was selected for making a biopic based on life and time of the legendary folk singer and Padma Shri award winner Pratima Barua Pandey, titled ‘Sonar Baran Pakhi’.
It was informed by the organisers that the film has already participated in many festivals and award shows and has been able to gain huge critical acclaim. “Through the film, Baruah has beautifully highlighted the Goalpariya culture,” said Rajib Sharma, one of the organisers of the award.
He also said that the filmmaker’s first movie ‘Adomya’ was awarded the best film in spiritual category at the 13th Dhaka International Film Festival and added that apart from making feature films, Sarma also has a number of short films, documentaries to her credit. She is also a known Assamese poet and short story writer.
