Assamese film ‘Kothanodi’ has received the ‘Prix du Jury étudiant’ (Student Jury Prize) in the recently concluded Festival du Film d’Asie du Sud (South Asian Film Festival of Paris) in Paris. The annual film festival honours some of the best works of cinema from the South Asian region.
“We thank the jury for selecting ‘Kothanodi’ for its prize. It is always a proud moment when an Assamese film gets recognized in different parts of the world,” said Anurupa Hazarika, producer of the film. Among other winners at this year’s edition of the festival in Paris were Hansal Mehta’s acclaimed ‘Aligarh,’ which won the Jury Prize and the Pakistani film ‘Song of Lahore.’
‘Kothanodi’, directed by Bhaskar Hazarika and starring a stellar ensemble cast including Seema Biswas, Adil Hussain, Urmila Mahanta and Zerifa Wahid, has successfully completed a four week theatrical run in Assam, where the National Award winning film was widely discussed and debated by audiences for its unique interpretation of tales from Lakshminath Bezbaruah’s ‘Burhi Air Xadhu’.
