‘Sonar Baran Pakhi’ Screened at South Korea

Sonar Baran Pakhi’, the biopic on the life and times of celebrated Goalparia folk singer Pratima Barua Pandey, made in the Rajbongshi language, has been consistently garnering critical acclamation at a number of festivals where, occasionally, it has even scooped awards, including the Audience Choice Award at the Dhaka International Film Festival and the Grand Jury Prize for Best Feature Film at the 15th Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) 2017. Recently, both the director Bobby Sarma Baruah and co-producer Basanta Kumar Baruah were present during the film’s screening at the 16th Jason International Music and Film Festival that took place near Seoul in South Korea on August 14. Bobby Sarma Baruah was inundated with inquisitive queries from the audiences and critics, who were quite moved by the film’s deeply humane, engrossing story, and were keen to know more about the legendary folk singer. The fascinating story of Padmashree Pratima Barua Pandey has also earned rave reviews in festivals held in countries like America, Canada, Australia, Bangladesh, Turkey and South Korea. It has also charmed its way through the hearts of viewers in India, in the various festivals held in Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Delhi, etc.

Sonar Baran Pakhi’ has so far been screened in the 15th Dhaka International Film Festival (where it received the Audience Award), 15th Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles 2017 (Grand Jury Prize for Best Feature Film), Jio Mami Mumbai Film Festival, Kolkata International Film Festival, Bengaluru International Film Festival, Asian Women’s Film Festival, 15th Third Eye Asian Film Festival, Khajuraho International Film Festival, International Film Festival of South Asia, Toronto, Flying Broom International Women’s Film Festival, Turkey, Habitat Film Festival, Delhi, Jason International Music and Film Festival, Korea, Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival, 7th International Folk Music Film Festival, Women Media Arts and Film Festival, Sydney, and Kaleidoscope Film Festival, New York.

Produced by Assam State Film (Finance & Development) Corporation and co-produced by Basanta-Bobby’s BB Entertainment Private Limited, ‘Sonar Baran Pakhi’ (The Golden Wing) will be released all over the State on November 24.
