The famed Seagull Theatre, which completed 25 years on December 2015, recently staged six plays on May 27 and 28 at the Rabindra Bhawan, as part of the group’s silver jubilee celebrations. On the first day, the group staged two plays, including one titled ‘The Seagull’ by Russian dramatist Anton Chekhov. The play directed by Baharul Islam, dramatises the romantic and artistic conflicts between four characters. Islam and his better half Bhagirathi, both alumnus of the National School of Drama, heads the fantastically strong cast here. This gifted duo has taken Seagull Theatre to new artistic heights, and is responsible for fostering a number of creative talents. The group is always brimming with talents.
Interestingly, the name of the theatre group has been named after the play. On the second day, Seagull staged four plays.
The theatre group, a brainchild of Baharul Islam, is also setting up a website to be launched soon. It will encompass a data base of the group’s numerous achievements. As informed by Islam, “Under the banner of Seagull Theatre, we have organised more than twenty plays. We will share about them on our website.”
Seagull intends to stage more plays this year. “We will keep on staging plays throughout the year as part of our silver jubilee celebrations,” Islam added.
