The year’s most eagerly awaited film, ‘Bahniman’ is now slated to be released all over on December 2. The film has been grabbing a lot of attention in the media lately, certainly infusing a renewed sense of optimism among the film fraternity in the state. The fact that it has been taken over by a big distributor house from Mumbai makes it all the more special. Perhaps, the speculations surrounding the film in the media have proven to be its plus point. ‘Bahniman’ is now expected to release commercially in some 80 theatres all over the country, which makes it the first Assamese language film to do so.
“Since December 2 is comparatively a safe date for an Assamese film and there are only one Hindi film (‘Wajah Tum Ho’) as of now so our distributor suggested us to grab the date looking at the all India scenario”, ‘Bahniman’s director Biswajeet Bora said. “The excitement levels are high, so we need to be careful regarding the film, as well as releasing the film”, Bora added. It’s a realistic possibility that he will offer moviegoers with a different story to keep things fresh and exciting.
‘Bahniman’ has been singled out for its overall look. “We are impressed with ‘Bahniman’, the kind of look we have seen in the film is fabulous, it actually looks like a Hindi film, so we have decided to distribute an Assamese film right away for the first time. We need blessings from the people of Assam. We are releasing the film in Assam, Shillong, Arunachal Pradesh, Mumbai, Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Pune, Bangalore and Kolkata” – says the owner of the distributor company.
‘Bahniman’ is a multi-star cast film with a huge production value. The leading roles are enacted by Bollywood actor Yashpal Shama and popular Assamese actor Jatin Bora who will be seen in a new avatar. Another artiste creating a buzz is the film’s heroine Rimi Hazarika who plays a cop. Ravi Janghu, a former Mr India and Bollywood actor, will be seen an action role. Other roles are enacted by Arun Hazarika, Bishnu Kharghoria, Baharul Islam, Nihal Das, Champak Sharma, Suneet Bora, Monuj Gogoi, Rina Bora, Mahadev Deka, etc. Pooja Kasekar (Mumbai) will be seen in a special role.
The film is being produced by Barnali Hazarika under the banner – Santoshi Maa Productions. The movie’s story-screenplay and dialogues have been penned by Biswajeet Bora himself. The movie’s action sequences are being directed by one of Bollywood’s top action directors Kaushal – Moses, whose credits include movies like ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’, ‘All is Well’, ‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya’, ‘Commando’, ‘Badshah’, ‘Ajnabi’, ‘Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns’ etc. ‘Bahniman’ contains four songs, including a title track, musically composed by Mumbai-based Jatin Sharma. The songs are sung by Zubeen Garg, Angarag Mahanta, Kalpana Patowari, Rupjyoti Devi and Nihal Das. Lyrics are written by Rajdweep and Archana Devi. The film is cinematographed by Mumbai-based Titu Jena. It will be edited by twice National Award winner Suresh Pai, who is considered among the best editors in Bollywood. The sound designing will be handled by Filmfare award-winning artiste Arun Nambiar, while the VFX will be directed by Mumbai’s Sachin Yadav. The film’s executive producer is Phatik Baruah. The experienced Nurrudin Ahmed handles the film’s production designing. The chief assistant to the director is Ghanashyam Kalita. Ashim Saikia is in charge of production controlling, while Moni Goswami is the production manager. ‘Bahniman’s assistant directors are Chandan Deka, Anindita Kalita and Pranjal Saikia. The film’s costume designer is Lopamudra Gogoi Bora, make-up is by Kishore Dangi and still-photography is by Pallav Jyoti Mahanta.
