The duo which has always created ripples together and had given many superhits to Assamese film industry is back after a hiatus of thirteen years. Veteran filmmaker Munin Barua has opened a fresh chapter in his partnership with popular artiste Zubeen Garg with ‘Priyaar Priyo’, which is to hit the theatres all over on November 10.
The duo last collaborated on the critically acclaimed ‘Dinabandhu’ in 2004 and the successful ‘Ramdhenu’, where Garg contributed as a playback singer, seven years back. Since ‘Hiya Diya Niya’ in 2000, Munin Barua has collaborated with Zubeen Garg on a string of projects. The renowned director, still the most sought-after, makes a genuine comeback with ‘Priyaar Priyo’, which is produced by Abdul Mannan Faruk under the banner of Azan Films. The film is a romantic comedy that also reflects contemporary society closely. The story, screenplay and dialogue are written by the director himself.
The film has almost used the same marketing strategy as that of Zubeen Garg’s groundbreaking ‘Mission China’, which steered Assamese cinema out of the troubled waters. However, the films that followed have found very little appeal at the Box-Office. Although the reviews have been positive, the films’ poor performances jeopardize the chances of filmmakers’ making more films.
The leading stars of ‘Priyaar Priyo’ led by Zubeen Garg too toured different places in the State, attracting a lot of media coverage. This melodrama also offers Garg new scope for creativity as a music director. Director Barua is indebted in no small measure to Garg for it has been his popular scores that have proved to be a vital factor to the success of his films, most of whom are big-budgeted and star-laden. Besides his commercial fares, the prolific filmmaker-dramatist has also shown his ability to make a terrific movie out of serious subject matter, as he did in the case of the Rajat Kamal winning ‘Dinabandhu’. It was warmly received by critics and a prominent player in that year’s State awards season.
The lyrics of ‘Priyaar Priyo’ are written by Diganta Bharati and Zubeen Garg. The songs are rendered by Zubeen Garg, Siddharth Hazarika, Bornali Kolita and Ritrisha Sarma. The starcast comprise of Zubeen Garg, Pranjal Saikia, Gunjan Bharadwaj, Biki, Aradhana, Sunita Kaushik, Saurabh Hazarika, Tridip Lahon, Nikumoni Baruah, Manjula Baruah, among others. The film has Pradip Daimari as cinematographer and Samujjal Kashyap as editor. While Priyanka Kashyap has done the choreography, the costumes are designed by Garima Saikia Garg.
