Assamese Film ‘Raktabeez’ All Set for Grand Release

Amidst mounting excitement, the gripping romantic action thriller ‘Raktabeez’ is ready to hit the theaters on May 11 across the State. Biswajeet Bora’s flair for the commercial narrative became evident with his storytelling abilities and visual style in ‘Bahnimaan’. He had made an attempt to go beyond the restrictions of mainstream cinema. After tasting success with that big-budgeted and star-studded visually arresting movie, he has the added pressure of living up to expectations with his next venture. The anticipation could be nerve racking, but, going by the buzz that the trailor is creating on the social media, ‘Raktabeez’ is surely destined for glory. Biswajeet has put together a quality product that people have always craved for – a high-octane action thriller with dark humour undertones.

The film revolves around three friends, embarking on a mission of revenge. Biswajeet, who has also written the film’s screenplay and dialogue, has repeated quite a few of the artistes from ‘Bahnimaan’. The film stars Ravi Janghu, Barsha Rani Bishaya, Suren Mahanta, Baharul Islam, Purabi Sharma, Suneet Bora, Lonishree Das, Khonjan Nath, Binod Lall Das, Minu Bania, Swapan Modak, Naba Mahanta, Mahadev Deka, who will be seen in a special avatar, Amulya Kakati, etc. The film is packed with a top-notch team of technicians. The film’s DOP has been handled by Shitangsu Khamari, who has worked as an associate cameraman in Bollywood movies like ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ and ‘Highway’. Jai Singh Nirjar, who has designed the action sequences in ‘Chennai Express’, the ‘Golmaal’ series, ‘Singham’, ‘Shivaay’ among others, is the film’s action director along with Biswajeet himself. The music has been scored by Palash Surya Gogoi, while the editing has been done by Hardik Singh. Biswajeet has been assisted in direction by Chandan Kumar, Jyotish Nath and Anindita Kalita.

The honesty and hard work that our forefathers had valued and slogged so hard to attain are being threatened in our society. Among the issues that the film presents, ‘Raktabeez’ also depicts the true nature of people earning their livelihood in a system fraught with corruption and deceit. ‘Raktabeez’ is produced by the Mumbai-based Ravindra Rajawat under the banner of Anhad Studios. The film is co-produced by Rahul Sahni, it’s line producer is Ashim Saikia.

Apart from ‘Raktabeez’, Biswajeet Bora has on his plate an off-beat dark tragedy called ‘Phehujali’, which is radically different both in terms of content and style. The film industry is currently witnessing some kind of an upheaval in the form of narratives like ‘Calendar’ and ‘Marksheet’, which have dealt with human problems in a realistic fashion. ‘Phehujali’, which deals with an important social issue, falls into that bracket.

A collaborative funding venture, the film depicts the travails of an elderly woman stricken with Alzheimer’s, and the toll it takes on the lives of near and dear ones. Its her husband who acts as her caretaker, providing unconditional help and support, while putting up with a painful situation that somehow gets redeemed after the entry of two adolescents, who bring some joy to their lives and the world around them.

The elderly couple in the film has been enacted by mobile theatre’s acclaimed artistes – Moni Bora and Suren Mahanta. Other in the cast include Baharul Islam, child artistes Rodali Bora and Tridip Saikia, Rupam Chetia, Monalisha Das, Jatin Khanikar, etc. Besides directing and producing, Biswajeet has also written the film’s story, script and dialogue.
