Assamese film ‘Rodor Sithi’ has been selected for screening at the competition category of Lonavala International Film Festival, which is scheduled to take place from September 1 to 5, 2016 at Mumbai. The film directed by Baharul Islam and produced by Ikramul Mazid under the banner of Alternative Cinematics, will be screened on day two of the festival. ‘Rodor Sithi’ has been chosen from over 100 movies from various countries. Starring Zubeen Garg, Angarag Mahanta, Bhagirathi among other artistes, the film has already bagged the Excellence in Cinema Award in the Canada International Film Festival. Ikramul Mazid’s other film as a producer ‘Barsharanya’ has won the Golden Palm Award in the ‘Environmental’ category of the prestigious Mexico International Film Festival.
Meanwhile, Baharul Islam will be honoured with the Rashtriya Ras Rang Sanman by Ras Kala Mancha, in a presentation ceremony to be held in Rohtok, Haryana, in memory of renowned drama personality Habib Tanvir on July 28. Islam has already to his credit honors like Habib Tanvir Award (Bihar), Harisingh Pochhai Award (Jabbalpur), Manohar Singh Award (New Delhi) and Sarada Kanta Bordoloi Award (Assam).
Baharaul Islam’s Seagull Theatre staged six plays on May 27 and 28 at the Rabindra Bhawan, as part of the group’s silver jubilee celebrations. On the first day, the group staged two plays, including one titled ‘The Seagull’ by Russian dramatist Anton Chekhov. The play directed by Baharul Islam, dramatises the romantic and artistic conflicts between four characters. Islam, who is the founder and artistic director of Seagull Theatre and his better half Bhagirathi, both alumnuses of the National School of Drama headed the talented cast of artistes in ‘The Seagull’.
Interestingly, the name of the theatre group has been named after the play. On the second day, Seagull staged four plays.
The theatre group is also setting up a website which will be launched soon. It will encompass a data base of the group’s numerous achievements. As informed by Islam, “Under the banner of Seagull Theatre, we have organised more than twenty plays. We will share about them on our website.”
Seagull intends to stage more plays this year. “We will keep on staging plays throughout the year as part of our silver jubilee celebrations,” Islam added.
