Celebrated Assamese Movie Director Pulok Gogoi is making a long overdue 35-minute biographical film on distinguished littérateur Dr Lakshmi Nandan Bora and his works. It is worth mentioning that Dr Bora, presently the editor of monthly magazine Gariyashi, had been honoured with the Padma Shri award this year. Besides, he has also received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1988 for his epic novel ‘Patal Bhairavi’, the Assam Valley Literary Award, the Saraswati Samman in 2008 for his novel ‘Kayakalpa’ and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009 from the Assam Publication Board.
Dr Bora is well-known for the portrayal of Assamese rural life and culture in his stories and novels. It was well reflected in Padum Barua‘s extraordinarily directed and flawlessly performed Assamese movie ‘Ganga Chilonir Pakhi’, which is universally recognized as a classic of our times. Pulok Gogoi has inserted the filming of Dr Bora’s short story ‘Aabestoni’ into the short film. He was granted unprecedented access in his endeavour. It has to be mentioned that Dr Bora allowed his life and creative process to be documented on-camera for the first time. The script for the short film has been written by documentary filmmaker Antara GG Choudhary.
