Noted freedom fighter and humanist Dr Bhubaneshwar Barua‘s life is all set to be captured on reel. Lokabandhu is the name of the new biopic. The new Assamese film is produced by noted physician Dr Dilip Ghosal under the banner of DG Production and directed by Dhiraj Kashyap. After completion of shooting in various locations like North Guwahati, Guwahati, Shillong, Kukurmara and Chaigaon, the editing is currently going on at Jyoti Chitraban Studio.
The film’s concept is by the producer himself. The script and dialogues are written by Jayanta Madhab Bora and Dhiraj Kashyap. The film Lokabandhu depicts Dr Bhubaneshwar Barua as a man of many talents: a physician, a freedom fighter and a passionate philanthropist. As a physician and social worker, he served his state and people with much pride. Dr Bhubaneswar Barua, inspired by Gandhian philosophies and ideals, devoted much of his time to charitable works. Throughout his life, he concerned himself with the suffering of countless citizens of underprivileged sections of the society, who turned to him for help and support. Several other icons of that period will also feature in the movie, including Gopinath Bordoloi, Lakhidhar Borah, Jyotiprasad Agarwala, Amiya Kumar Das, Hemchandra Barua among others. As a whole, ’the film will strive to instil the values and ideals of Dr Bhubaneswar Barua to the future generation’’, Producer Ghosal said.
Veteran actor Pranjal Saikia plays the title role of Lokabandhu. Other key roles are played by Suren Bora, Hemanta Choudhury, Jyotishman Kashyap, Farvez, Nirmal Das, Aporva Deka, Vaishali Saikia, Pallavi Phukan, Saju, Khyati Subash, Dhritiman etc. The film’s assistant directors are Prashanta Kalita, Dipankar Ghosal and Lakshmi Barua. Naba Kumar Das is the cinematographer. The film is edited by Sanjeev Talukdar. Music is composed by Arup Dutta. The film’s only song is rendered by Bidyasagar.
