The duo which has always created ripples together and had given many superhits to Assamese film industry is back after a hiatus of twelve years. Veteran filmmaker Munin Barua is set to open a fresh chapter in his partnership with popular artiste Zubeen Garg with a new movie called ‘Priyar Priyo’. The duo, which has been a potent combination, last collaborated on the critically acclaimed ‘Dinabandhu’ in 2004 and the successful ‘Ramdhenu’, where Garg contributed as a playback singer, six years back. Since ‘Hiya Diya Niya’ in 2000, Munin Barua has collaborated with Zubeen Garg on a string of projects.
The new film, to be produced by Abdul Mannan Faruk under the banner of Azan Films, is going to be a romantic comedy which will also tackle among other things the varying social changes. A highlight will be the frenzied nature of local elections when people get into a celebratory mood, virtually turning it into a festival of sorts. The story, screenplay and dialogue are written by the director himself.
The melodrama also offers Zubeen Garg new scope for creativity as a music director. Director Barua is indebted in no small measure to Garg for it has been his popular scores that have proved to be a vital factor to the success of his films, most of whom are big-budgeted and star-laden. Besides his commercial fares, Barua has also shown his ability to make a terrific movie out of serious subject matter, as he did in the case of the Rajat Kamal winning ‘Dinabandhu’. It was warmly received by critics and a prominent player in that year’s State awards season.
The lyrics of ‘Priyar Priyo’ are written by Diganta Bharati and Zubeen Garg. The starcast comprise of Zubeen Garg, Pranjal Saikia, Gunjan Bharadwaj, Biki, Aradhana, Sunita Kaushik, Saurabh Hazarika, Tridip Lahon, Nikumoni Baruah, Manjula Baruah, among others. The film which has Pradip Daimari as cinematographer and Samujjal Kashyap as editor will go on floor after this Magh Bihu and will be shot at various locations of the State. ‘Priyar Priyo’ is expected to hit the screen by the end of the next year. After completion of this film, another film will be made by director Munin Barua which will feature the combo of ‘Munin-Zubeen-Jatin’.
