Prism Production, a Guwahati-based production firm, recently organised a musical evening on the unpublished and unsung lyrics of the first Jnanpeeth Award winner from Assam – Dr Birendra Kumar Bhattacharjya and Taffuzzal Ali, at the Tirthanath Sarma Bhawan Auditorium. Nine songs of Dr Birendra Kumar Bhattacharjya and Taffuzzal Ali, which had never been published, were set to tune by Ratan Das, Sunirmal Chakroborty and Krishna Sarkar, with conceptualisation by Bibekananda Bagchi.
With the intention to introduce the deeply moving lyrics of the two literary geniuses to the new generation, the musical evening was inaugurated by renowned music composer Ramen Barua by lighting the traditional lamp and paying floral tributes to the stalwarts. Ramen Barua, in his speech, encouraged the initiative of Prism Production and spoke about his wonderful memories with these literary geniuses.
The daughter of Dr Birendra Kumar Bhattacharjya – Juri Bhattacharjya, and son-in-law Madhurjya Jeet Chakroborty, along with the wife of Taffuzzal Ali – Johura Ali, and his son Rubayut Ul Ali, were also present on the occasion. The musical evening started with a Sattriya dance by the students of the State Bal Bhawan, Guwahati. The Principal of the State Bal Bhawan, Kabita Sarma Bhattacharjya was also felicitated during the occasion.
The evening started with the song – ‘Mou mat matibor mukhe mur seleng oi’ penned by Dr Birendra Kumar Bhattacharjya, followed by two more of his songs – ‘Kore nu pasuwa awli bawli, Korenu pasuwa bon’, ‘Rupor bonor chaya maya’. Then came ‘Koto borokhar ojal smriti barikhai nibo dhui’, ‘Montu nohoi daworiya akash meghali’ of Taffuzzal Ali, and other songs of these two geniuses that were beautifully presented by the students of the State Bal Bhawan, along with other artistes.
