In a rare achievement, Assamese musician Sukumar Dutta, who has curved his own niche in Bollywood with scores of musical arrangements for various music directors since the last 6-7 years, has quickly become the toast of town with his music composition – ‘Aadat..’. This track has made it into the soundtrack of a major Hollywood movie – ‘Passenger’, which stars popular artistes like Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence. Featuring the voices of Bollywood singers, popular rapper Raftaar, Jubin Nautiyal and Shirley Setia, this song rendered in Hindi and English, has resonated deeply with the masses. Interestingly, besides English, ‘Passenger’ has been released in the languages of Hindi, Tamil and Telegu across various theatres in the country.
Hailing from Sivasagar, Sukumar developed a strong interest in music at a very young age. After completing his graduation in science from Sivasagar College, Sukumar left home and landed in Mumbai in 2010, where he worked as an assistant sound engineer at the Rudra Digital Studio. After that, he worked as an assistant to popular music directors like Pritam Chakravarty, Anand Raj Anand among others. Some of his notable films as a music arranger include ‘Dhoom 3’, ‘Phata Poster Nikla Hero’, ‘Holiday’, ‘Shaadi Ke Side-Effects’, etc.
Imbued with a local flavour by rapper Raftaar, the song captures the romance between the two strangers (played by Pratt and Lawrence), who discover love as they battle imminent death to save the lives of 5000 sleeping passengers on a sinking space ship.
Created by major film studio – Sony Pictures Entertainment’s VOD platform SonyLIV and digital content network One Digital Entertainment, ‘Aadat..’s music is programmed by Ishan Das with additional programming by Raftaar, and lyrics written by Amit Kumaran.
