Samahar Natya Gosthee celebrated the 47th Death Anniversary of doyen of Assamese culture and socio-political leader Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha at its office premises in Hengerabari, Guwahati. After paying tribute to the Rabha, the programme started with a song by Krishra Das.
The highlight of the evening was an informal discussion with noted singer-lyricist Loknath Goswami on Rabha’s songs and his ideology. New Delhi-based Researcher of National Labour Institute Bonojit Hussain also presented his thoughts on relevance of Rabha in today’s time. The discussion stressed on the aspect of Rabha’s ideology, which was Communism. The august gathering expressed anguish that an orchestrated effort is being made to eliminate from peoples’ mind that Rabha was a Communist leader and he carried a price tag of Rs 10,000 on his head in Independent India for his ideology. The assembled crowd deliberated ways to take forward his legacy to the younger generation.
During the programme, Loknath Goswami sang two of Rabha’s beautiful numbers much to the applause of the audience.
