The first death anniversary of legendary actor Indra Bania was observed on March 25 at the Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati, with a day-long programme under the aegis of the Assam Abhinay Pratisthan. The programme included a mono-acting competition among upcoming artistes. Anjan Goswami, Debangana Lahkar and Prayas Phukan won the top three prizes.
The evening’s programme began with a tribute to Indra Bania, accompanied by a bhajan, followed by a play titled ‘Durgar Hartal’, written by the late actor. The play – full of wit and humour, delighted the packed gathering of Indra Bania fans. Special mention may be made of artistes Sagarika Goswami as Lakshmi, Sukanya Rajguru as Saraswati and Rajib Kro as Narad. The play was directed by Nabajyoti Bora. The dance sequences, the costume design by Minu Bania and the set design by Umakanta Sonowal deserve appreciation too.
A souvenir titled ‘Jilingoni’ – on the life and times of Indra Bania, was also released on the occasion.
