Assamese actress Urmila Mahanta who has earned the adulation of audiences by working in various languages, has made everyone sit up and take notice of her performance in the Hindi movie ‘Viraam’, which has just hit the theatres. A drama about love, greed, and loyalty, the film also explores the journey of a woman’s heart. Written by Abdullah Khan and directed by Ziaullah Khan, the film has Urmila Mahanta portraying the leading character, a role tailor-made for her. The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19 this year.
“The film is a matured love story with many twists and turns. My character is a young girl who falls in love with a 52 year old businessman played by Narendra Jha. The story encompasses the journey of a lifetime of my character. The film was shot mainly in Dehradun as the story is based there,” said Urmila.
Her character is that of a girl who knows what she’s doing and what she wants from her life. As an artiste, she found it challenging as she had never played a character with many shades.
Urmila shares screen space with veteran actor Narendra Jha, known for his performance in movies like ‘Haider’, ‘Raees’ and ‘Kaabil’.
