‘Purab Ki Awaz’ Ready for Release

The big-budgeted bilingual movies ‘Epaah Phulil Epaah Soril’ (Assamese) and ‘Purab Ki Awaz’ (Hindi) are all set to hit the big screens in the state. Its post-production works like background music, editing, DI among other works have recently been completed. The good news that has filtered in is that director Chandra Mudoi is planning a nation-wide release of ‘Purab Ki Awaz’ on August 12, before India’s Independence Day on August 15.

The movie is a cinematic attempt to make everyone aware of one of the country's youngest and most influential freedom fighters, Kanaklata, who became a martyr of Indian freedom struggle at the tender age of just 14 years, on September 20, 1942. She was shot dead by the British while she was attempting to hoist the Indian national flag. The film also simultaneously deals with the present-day terrorism which continues to pose a significant threat to the state and its citizens. Chandra Mudoi, who nurtured the dream of directing a film on Kanaklata for years, has made a film quite unlike anything he has done before.

The filmmakers are still undecided on the release date of the Assamese version - ‘Epaah Phulil Epaah Soril’. Producer Loknath Deka is currently busy with the distribution of the Hindi version in Mumbai. The industry is presently going through a period of lull. It’s trying to rebound from last year’s dismal turn-out in terms of releases. Industry insiders are hoping that the forthcoming ‘Epaah Phulil Epaah Soril’ will mark a return to the days of yore. Earlier on, ‘Purab Ki Awaz’, the Hindi version of 'Epaah Phulil Epaah Saril', evoked generous praise and appreciation after a special show was held at the Film Divison Auditorium in New Delhi on January 7. Everyone on the occasion right from the MPs, members of Assam Association, celebrities from Bollywood and other walks of life to the distributors heaped praise on the film.

The film's chief assistant director is Dipak Roy, assistant director Swapnajit Borkakati, music direction by Dr Hitesh Baruah, Ajay Phukan and Tapan Kakati, cinematography by Naba Kumar Das, editing by Syamal Das, make-up by Biswa and Dhan, production controller Khargeswar Bora. The major roles in the bilingual are played by Nipon Goswami, Urmila Mahanta, Debashish Barthakur, Monimala, Tapan Sarma, Papori Bora, Ashrumoni, child artistes Rodali, Akshita and Jaffry, etc.
