Guwahati Theatre Festival Concludes

The Guwahati Theatre Festival concluded on September 18, 2016, with Rage Productions’ ‘One On One’, with scintillating performances from Rajit Kapur, Anu Menon, Neil Bhoopalam, Sumit Vyas, Vrajesh Hirjee and others. The play featured a unique format of eight different mini-plays put together for 120 minutes. The festival which was held from the 14th to the 18th of September also featured plays like Rajat Kapoor’s ‘Hamlet The Clown Prince’, Kalki Koechlin’s ‘The Living Room’, ‘2 To Tango 3 To Jive’ by Saurabh Shukla, ‘The Vagina Monologues’ by Mahabanoo Mody Kotwal and ‘The Truths of Womanhood – A monologue’ by Kalki Koechlin.

All the performances were followed by a talk-back session where the audience interacted with the cast and Director of respective plays. The first time festival has been a major success as it saw a turnout of over 5000 people in a span of five days with the audience also looking forward to the festival returning for the next year. “It has been highly encouraging to see such a huge turnout each day, this being the first time that such an event was held in the city. We are already looking forward and planning for the next edition in 2017 and hope to make it even bigger, better and all-encompassing,” said Sunit Jain, the Publisher of GPlus and the Festival Chairman.

The Guwahati Theatre Festival was inaugurated by Anand Prakash Tiwari, Managing Director of Assam Transport Corporation and the concluding remarks were given by Ashutosh Agnihotri, CEO of Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority. The festival has been supported by Ballantine’s, Audi Guwahati, Indian Oil, State Bank of India and the FICCI Ladies Organisation, North East Chapter. The Guwahati Theatre Festival also featured two workshops conducted by Neil Bhoopalam and Saurabh Shukla which were attended by over 100 students, theatre enthusiasts and artists.
