Assamese Film ‘Antareen’ to Release on 5th May

Assamese film ‘Antareen’ has got released all over on May 5. The film based on eminent litterateur Rita Chowdhury’s novel ‘Torali’, centres around a young woman’s fight against social injustice inherent in our society in the garb of patriarchy. It didn’t take too long for the critics to take note of this film at the festival circuit where it has garnered plaudits. It has even received the Best Feature Film award at the 3rd Indian Cine Film Festival in Mumbai in 2015. Produced by Manabendra Adhikary under the banner of Artha Films, ‘Antareen’s screenplay is penned by Monjul Baruah himself.

Fathered by a politician’s loveless extramarital passion, Torali’s life is a quest for sanctuary from her father’s loveless world, but her intent to uncover her father’s transgression gets her trapped in a mental asylum. Shackled, she finds Samiran who takes up her fight against the wrongs of a patriarchal world.

The film with its dark undertones features artistes like Arun Nath, Urmila Mahanta, Boloram Das, Aparna Dutta Choudhury, Jolly Laskar, Mayukh, Dhruba Prasad Bora, Himangshu Prasad Das, Pranami Bora, Debobrat Borthakur among others. The film is cinamatographed by Sumon Dowerah, while the music is scored by Tarali Sarma and sound is designed by Jatin Sarma and Debajit Changmai. The art direction is by Anup Hazarika and Rama Roy.

The film’s shooting took place in different locations within Assam, including the State Mental Hospital in Tezpur.

Director Monjul Baruah joins a growing list of new wave filmmakers who are simultaneously expressing and developing their own cinematic vocabulary. He is confident that his movie will surely find its place in the heart of the viewing public.
