‘Xhoixobote Dhemalite’ Set to Release in USA

After winning awards and accolades in India and abroad, Bidyut Kotoky directed ‘Xhoixobote Dhemalite’ (Rainbow Fields) has hit another milestone as it’s going to be the first Assamese film to be released commercially in the USA.

Apart from that, the film has been selected for the prestigious Winter Film Awards 7th Annual International Film Festival that showcases the work of emerging filmmakers from around the world. The festival is going to be held from February 22 to March 3, in New York with a jam-packed schedule of 93 films of all genres from 31 countries.

“It’s indeed very encouraging. More so, because it signifies pushing the geographical boundaries for Assamese films, which is the need of the hour. Besides, I believe people from across the globe will relate to the emotion of ‘Xhoixobote Dhemalite’,” said Bidyut.

The distribution company Media Konnect, through their cinema chain Cine Grand will be releasing the film in selected theatres in the USA.

The film deals with the psychological journey of kids who grew up during the turbulent period of 1980s in Assam when several crucial socio-political developments took place including the Assam agitation.

“It’s very important to tell the story. If someone glosses over violence, the other glamorizes it. But here it’s treating it as reality. So, you are not going to be horrified by its reality, but you would be shocked by it. If you have any conscience or social responsibility, you will feel very shocked by the reality of how violence affects the life of ordinary people,” said multiple award-winning actor Victor Banerjee.

Multiple award-winning sound designer Amrit Pritam based in Mumbai who has designed the sound for the film said that the film was shot in sync sound which is not very common in Indian film-making scenario.

After winning several awards across the globe, and travelling to several prestigious film festivals, the film is currently running in the theatres in Assam. The film’s charity premier was also held recently. The proceeds of the show went to the Moran Blind School, which is run by Victor Banerjee.

Written and directed by award-winning director Bidyut Kotoky and produced by Mumbai based production house India Stories along with dhruv creative production and Kurmasana Kreates, the film stars Victor Banerjee, Dipannita Sharma, Nakul Vaid, Naved Aslam, Nipon Goswami, Nikumoni Barua and a bunch of kids.

It was also selected for the prestigious 11th International Children’s Film Festival in Bangladesh which has got underway since January 27.

Earlier, the film had won best foreign film award at Hollywood CineFest last year and had its world premiere at IFFI Goa, under the prestigious Indian Panorama.
