Rajdweep’s Play ‘Bondookor Kobita’ Awarded

Guwahati-based playwright-lyricist, Rajdweep’s play ‘Bondookor Kobita’ has been conferred with the 2018-19 Best Play of the Year Award by the All Assam Sahitya Sanmilan


The play, set during the tumultuous period of violence and insurgency in the State, revolves around a young man who loves to write poetry, but is forced to follow the path of insurgency.

Rajdweep, who made his debut as a script-writer with ‘Khel – the Game’, an Assamese film by Ashok Kumar Bishoya in 2015, has written a number of lyrics for Assamese and Bollywood movies, including Anurag Basu’s ‘Jagga Jasoos’, Konkona Sen Sharma’s ‘A Death in the Gunj’, etc, and has received the fourth best prize for his script ‘Ishqology’ at the first edition of the Cinestaan India’s Storytellers Contest in Mumbai, which was given away by Bollywood actor Aamir Khan.

Rajdweep has also penned a number of scripts for various mobile theatre troupes which have been staged across the state to popular appeal and appreciation.

Bondookor Kobita’, a widely appreciated play, was staged by Hengool Theatre. Rajdweep, who hails from Dhing, located in the Nagaon district, has been writing plays on socially relevant themes. His play ‘Bonoriya’ dealt with the political scenario of the State, while ‘Breaking News’ involved the media industry, and ‘Bauli Mur Priya’ highlighted the power of love over religion.
